Fun Catering Ideas

Keeping up with trends can be a bit tedious, but keeping up with what’s hot in the world of catering can be downright delicious!

Most of these ideas aren’t new at all but have been developed and refined over the past few years while some may have been hot of few decades ago and are making a comeback.

  • Miniature items are still big—dessert shots, savory shooters, cake pops and items on individual serving spoons are still strong sellers and being expanded to include new products and flavors all the time. How about mini-breakfast items like breakfast sandwich sliders, mini-muffins and virgin bloody Mary shooters?

  • Items that look like one thing but with unexpected flavors are making their way onto catering menus—think: looks like an ice cream sundae parfait but with layers of BBQ meat and mashed potatoes topped with a cherry tomato!

  • Grilled cheese sandwiches are the new burger—gourmet made to order grilled cheese sandwich and slider stations featuring interesting ingredients like pesto sauce, bacon, pulled pork and sliced apples are wonderful options for a reception or to shake up lunch at your next meeting.

  • Dinner & a Show— Guests and meeting attendees want to be entertained so including action stations at your next event is a great idea! How about a made to order pasta station?

  • Roving food carts— Some of us are old enough to remember when high-end restaurants often offer “Russian Service” consisting of food carts being wheeled up to your table. What a fun idea for your next party!

  • Planning a wedding? Just a few years ago the hot colors where brown and earth tones. Today fresh and bright colors are in—tangerine, tango, cabaret, margarita to name just a few hot wedding colors for 2012.

  • Watch Television? How about a “Mad Men” themed event? Include classic retro items like deviled eggs, cheese fondue and Oysters Rockefeller along with classic martinis and whiskey sours at the bar.

All in all, what a fun bunch of ideas to pick from for your next event! Call the events specialists at Royal Catering to discuss your catering needs and how you can implement those ideas to make your next meeting a hot, rocking success.
