More Wedding Planning Ideas

Recently, brides and grooms are planning their weddings based on their interests, backgrounds and way of life, rather than following a book of rules about what their wedding and reception should be like. Although we always make a point of suggesting that couples make their wedding what they want it to be without necessarily following the latest trends, there are some fun and atypical wedding planning ideas out there that are worth a look.

Feasting Tables
Bringing back an almost medieval style, with long, sometimes rustic tables without table covers. This pulls your guests together for a strong feeling of community. Feasting tables are perfect for family-style service and encourage lots of guest interaction.

Rustic Table Décor
Try using burlap table covers accented with flowers, plants and moss in an earthy-natural but elegant wedding.

Being Outdoors
Of course there have always been outdoor weddings, but with today’s emphasis on the environment and natural settings, even more couples are moving the entire event outdoors. Be sure to have a bad weather back up plan though.

Alternatives to Wedding Cake
Cupcakes are still popular, but there are lots of other fun alternatives to the traditional wedding cake. Consider pie buffets (full size or miniature), donuts, or Whoopie pies. Donut holes with dipping sauces seem downright elegant—and are inexpensive and easy to prepare, transport and serve.

Thrift Furnishings
Try utilizing thrift furnishings to give your reception a unique look and feel. Something like banged-up dressers with drawers hanging out, filled with wedding gifts and holding the guest book or old beat-up end tables used as food and beverage displays.

Comfort & Lounging
For many wedding couples, it’s less about trying to impress the guests than it is about having a great party where everyone is enjoying themselves. To help guests get in the party mood, offer inexpensive flip-flops in the bridal party colors.

Creating comfortable seating areas with sofas, comfortable armchairs and coffee tables is not just for high-end receptions anymore. With the number of rental companies available, it’s easy to find reasonably priced lounge style furniture rental options.

Surprise Ending
Plan something special for your guests as they leave. For example, surprise them with a food truck or a coffee bar outside. The idea of having something special at the end has been around for a while, but people are taking it to a bigger level.
